JLA #6~Fire in the Sky
In a San Francisco hospital, Neron begins making a deal with two ancient demons for possession of their souls.  At the same time, a fiery body flies out of the sky and slams into the harbor outside.  On the moon, Superman and Flash are arranging the Watchtower's trophy room and discussing Green Arrow's application when Green Lantern calls and says Martian Manhunter is requesting assistance in San Francisco.  Flash races to the teleporter, but somehow gets trapped inside.  Back in California, J'onn finds the crashed body just as three winged beings part the water to attack.  Moments later Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman show up and after a rough battle, put the three attackers out.  Green Lantern quickly tells the others that Flash is trapped and Superman had mentioned briefly that the whole Watchtower was mysteriously shaking.  Meanwhile, Neron closes his deal with the demons who agree to aid his wishes if they are allowed to pull the Moon down from the sky.  The body that fell into the harbor explains to the JLA that he was once the Guardian Angel Zauriel, but requested mortality and left for Earth.  Now the most dangerous angel in Heaven--Asmodel--is after him because of certain information he carries.  Zauriel warns the League to leave because there will be big trouble when Asmodel arrives.  But the League stays and a giant pyramid appears in the sky, erupting with angels and Asmodel's chariot.  Green Lantern makes a final call to Superman, but Supes reports Flash is still trapped and the Moon seems to be falling toward Earth.  GL signs off, knowing the team will have to face the Apocalypse without their leader.

JLA #7~Heaven on Earth
While Asmodel and his angels from the Bull Host tear up San Francisco, Superman uses his new energy-based powers to turn himself into a giant electromagnet, creating a magnetic field that repels the Moon back into its own orbit.  Once the League confronts Asmodel, J'onn takes him one-on-one as Wonder Woman and Zauriel head for Asmodel's chariot to disable the angelic shield now surrounding San Francisco.  Green Lantern clears their way and Aquaman begins tending to the citizens caught in the middle of it all.  Flash manages to alter his rate of molecular motion, freeing him from the teleport device and finally allowing him to join the others.  Wonder Woman disables the shield, allowing Superman to fill in for a very battered Martian Manhunter.  However, Asmodel's chariot starts breaking up and falling toward the city, threatening to destroy everything in its path.  Zauriel, Wonder Woman, and Martian Manhunter manage to hold it long enough for Green Lantern to alter Flash's energy into sound waves reaching a point that cancels out the angels' supersonic vibrations, sending them back to Heaven.  Zauriel is offered but passes up JLA membership, saying he has other personal things to take care of.  The JLA returns to the Watchtower (minus J'onn who takes some resting time, but is replaced by Batman) to prepare for Green Arrow's official joining of the team, but the meeting is called short when a sudden visit from The Key leaves the League unconscious.

JLA #8~Imaginary Stories
With the six present members of the League in stasis, The Key begins running dream-like programs in their minds.  Kal-El is handed the power ring of a dying Green Lantern.  Aquaman is helping a flooded world find food, supplies, and shelter from Manta Raiders.  Bruce Wayne is old and married, his son filling the role of Robin to Tim Drake's Batman.  Diana Prince is an adventurer out to stop Baroness Paula Von Gunther from claiming a valuable artifact.  Meanwhile on Earth, Green Arrow prepares to teleport to the Watchtower.  When he arrives, he finds the place dark and seemingly deserted . . . until he runs into some of The Key's robot keymen.  He manages to destroy a couple before The Key himself shows up and takes a major shot at him, leaving Green Arrow wounded and defenseless.  However, Arrow does manage to escape in the smoke, but not so far as to miss hearing The Key's plans of somehow unlocking another universe.  As The Key returns to his chambers to begin downloading his virus into the Flash, Green Arrow heads to the trophy room, arms himself with some of Oliver Queen's old trick arrows, and sets out to stop his enemy.

JLA #9~Elseworlds
With the initiation of Flash's mental program--a world where almost everyone has super speed--, The Key begins reviewing his plan.  He's affecting the League with a programmable psycho-virus which overrides the nervous system and creates hallucinations.  The purpose is to activate a doorway to "negative space" in which he will be able to control everyone as he is controlling the JLA's thoughts now.  However, his mind doesn't have the power to open the doorway itself, so he decided to tap into the energies of the minds of the JLA.  The amount of energy released when the team realizes it's dreaming and wakes up will be enough to unlock the door to negative space.  However, the system passes through Flash's system quicker than everyone else's and he escapes to find Green Arrow, who is having a terrible time trying to use his father's trick arrows.  Arrow tells Flash he simply can't help defeat The Key because it would take a madman to shoot the arrows right.  Meanwhile, the Leaguers begin meeting in their dreams and realizing that they are dreaming.  Just as Green Lantern enters the dream state, Batman realizes the danger of waking up.  But it's too late and the doorway to negative space opens.  The Key's well-aimed shot downs Flash as he enters the room, and just as the villain is about to enter the doorway, he's knocked down by a boxing glove arrow.  The Key is placed in a mental maze of his own and returned to a clinic.  Green Arrow's bravery and ability to stop The Key lands him an instant membership.  But just as all seems well again, ghostly forms of the League's core members appear from space and head toward Earth.

JLA #10~Genesis and Revelations
The Revenge Squad, the group of the League's evil twins, begin tearing up Star City, vowing to counteract all of the good the JLA has ever done.  From the Watchtower, Martian Manhunter establishes a telepathic link among the League.  Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and Aquaman arrive at Star City to take care of the Revenge Squad (Flash is missing due to injury and Wonder Woman is currently dead).  The fight's a long one and the League wins, but Star City suffers severe damage.  Aquaman attempts a telepathic probe of his counterpart to which he later says, "there was something familiar about the mind I touched."  With the destruction of his counterpart, Batman learns the Revenge Squad are actually solid-light holograms.  He then formulates the idea that the holograms may be remote devices, analyzing the team's strengths and weaknesses.  The idea is accepted and Green Lantern is sent to look for orbital broadcast facilities.  Back on the moon, new Leaguer Aztek brings Martian Manhunter's attention to some sort of energy field traveling toward Earth faster than light speed.  Using a captured Martian jumpship, J'onn leaves to investigate.  Later, though Lantern's search comes up empty, a newly reformed Injustice Gang headed by Lex Luthor sit in their concealed satellite planning their next move.  Though Dr. Light proposes killing Green Lantern now, Luthor declares they will wait until the time is right and displays a glowing, heart-shaped crystal to his colleagues.  "Prepare for the corporate takeover of the Justice League."
