One of four men to assume the roll of Superman after his apparent death, John Henry Irons took the name "Man of Steel" to quite a literal sense.  An amazing technician, he forged his own armor--several times over, the newest version of which is computerized and vastly increases his strength.  Proving himself a hero following the real Superman's return, and several times since, Steel was brought into the JLA.  He's rapidly gaining ground in the League, too.  He has proven himself as great an inventor as Batman (plus Steel's around more) and has leadership skills secondary only to Superman.  He appears to have a secure seat at the JLA round table.
