The daughter of Gotham Police Commissioner James Gordon, Oracle once fought crime as Batgirl.  But after taking a bullet in the spine by the Joker, Barbara was paralyzed from the waist down.  Still wishing to help stop crime in a city that certainly needs all the help it can get, she became Oracle, the primary source for information.  She soon set up freelance services, providing metahuman agents to troubleshoot global crises.  Most frequently she has worked with JLA founder Black Canary and the heroes of Gotham City.  Inducted into the JLA at Batman's request (who is the only member who knows her true identity), Oracle serves as the League's primary databank and surveillance system.
