Following the murder of his parents before his eyes, Bruce Wayne traveled the world and learned the secrets of nearly every form of martial arts known to man.  After returning to Gotham, he became Batman and vowed to spend the rest of his life preventing others from suffering the same pain he did.  Regarded as an urban legend by many, Batman strikes at the fears and superstitions of his enemies.  While primarily a solo player, he has been a member of several previous incarnations of the Justice League.  While not a regular attender to meetings and a foreboding presence to other members (especially Green Lantern), Batman's razor-sharp intellect makes him invaluable to the team.
