Born Prince Orin of Atlantis, Aquaman was abandoned on a reef to die as a baby.  He was saved by a dolphin who then raised Orin as her own.  As an adolescent he learned the ways and language of the surface by lighthouse keeper Arthur Curry, from whom he also gained a new identity.  After meeting the Flash (Barry Allen) and dubbed "Aquaman," he became one of the founding members of the original Justice League.  He later returned to the seas and was welcomed back as the King of Atlantis and protector of the oceans and all their creatures.  Shortly after the death of his son, Aquaman divorced.  Later, he lost his left hand to some villain-controlled piranhas.
